Cecil Burgess Eunson , was a farmer, butcher and Shetland Islands Councillor from 1986 until his death in 2007. He unsuccessfully contested the Lerwick Clickimin seat at the 1982 Shetland Islands Council election.
Biography
Unable to afford further education, Eunson's first job was as a farmhand at Berry. He later became a butcher at Scalloway and then Lerwick. In later life he became wealthy, and was able to travel on the QE2 and on Concorde by the early 1980s. Much of this money was made by sheep trading.
He was elected the chairman of the SIC Adult Services Board.
Cecil served until his death on 25th December 2007, aged 78. He was a disability advocate, and campaigned vigorously on behalf of people with MS. Dr Jonathan Wills who succeeded Eunson as local councillor said of him that he was "a brave and formidable defender of the public interest".
