Magnus John Sandison was an employee of the Mission to Seafarers (the 'Flying Angel') when it was located in Charlotte Street and was also a Lerwick Town Councillor between 1958 and 1959.

Biography

Magnus left Shetland as a young man and joined the Merchant Navy for eight years, before becoming a member of the Salvation Army. He returned to Shetland in 1934 and worked as a missionary for the Church of Scotland in Burravoe, Yell for a number of years. He left Shetland during WWII to work for the British Sailor's Society, and eventually returned back to work in that organisation's Lerwick mission.

He again left Shetland in 1960 to Montrose intending to retire, but the Church of Scotland called on his services and he served for 10 more years in the Parish Church at Gourdon.
