William 'Bill' Playfair was a quantity surveyor and a Shetland Islands Councillor for Unst between 1978 and 1982. He was also the vice-chair of the Shetland Conservative Association. He unsuccessfully contested the Unst seat at the 1982 Shetland Islands Council election and the Lerwick Clickmin seat at the 1990 Shetland Islands Council election.
