James John Pottinger was a compositor, briefly a Lerwick Town Councillor from 1919 until his resignation in 1921 and a County Councillor for Lerwick Central between 1919 until he resigned in May 1921 His brother, Francis was also a County Councillor.
Biography
In 1893, James was working and living in Edinburgh, and joined the Social Democratic Federation. His brother Francis joined him in 1896. James was for some time employed by R & R Clark, a printers in Edinburgh. Around 1911, he was elected as President of the Edinburgh and Leith Printing Establishments Association. In early 1918, James was appointed as secretary for the Edinburgh Labour Party, but had resigned by the start of 1919.
