James Robert White was a County Councillor initially for Dunrossness North from 1922 to 1925, then for Lerwick Central 1928 to 1929, and finally for Sandsting from 1930 and 1932. He unsuccessfully contested the Sandsting seat in the 1929 County Council election.

Biography

He began his working life in Scalloway, before serving in WWI as a gunner. After the war he returned to Sand and established a shop there. After some years, he established J. R. White & Co in Lerwick with his brother. He was a founding member of the Shetland Woollen Industries Association and its first secretary, as well as being involved in the Shetland Baptist Association.
