] John Stewart was a County Councillor for Yell North from 1952 until 1955. He unsuccessfully contested the Yell North seat in the 1955 County Council election.
Biography
As a young man, John worked for the merchant navy and later returned to Shetland to run a ferry service in Yell. During WWI he was employed by the council doing construction work in Graven, and after the was focussed on crofting.
He was known as an accomplished sailor in Shetland with his boat Miss Gadabout.
John, and Yell man Campbell Nisbet were killed in a boating accident during a strong storm.
