Zachary Macaulay Hamilton , son of the Reverend Zachary, was a County Councillor for Yell North from 1890 until his death in 1905. His son, William was a County Councillor for Nesting between 1955 and 1973. He withdrew from the running of the Unst South seat in the inaugural Zetland County Council election in 1890, but was elected to represent Yell North at the same election anyway.
Biography
After completing his education, Zachary became a sheep farmer and breeder. He later had a dalliance in the herring-curing but it was not a success. In later life, he became the Factor to the estates of Garth, Annsbrae and Burravoe.
Despite his bad experience with fishcuring, he maintained a passion for boats and fishing, and used his privileged position to help other Shetlanders acquire boats and gears.
He was involved in the Shetland Agricultural Society.
