James Mouat was a grocer, house proprietor and Lerwick Town Councillor. He was a distant relative of Robert Stewart, Earl of Orkney (7th Great-grandfather through his wife). His son James and his grandson, James Mouat Goudie, were also Lerwick Town Councillors.
