Robert Hunter was a merchant, wool dealer and registrar and a County Councillor for Nesting between 1920 and 1922, having been co-opted to the vacancy left following the death of his brother, James. Robert was an agent for the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society and other Sailors Orphan Society, with other appointments including; district receiver of wreck, clerk to the local Old Age Pensions Committee, collector of rates, registrar and chairman of the Nursing Association. He had been a Baptist and attended church the day before his death, where he appeared in good health. He unsuccessfully contested the Nesting seat in the 1922 County Council election.
