John Leslie was a general merchant, hosiery dealer and County Councillor for Aithsting and Sandsting between 1922 and 1925 (as the two counties were joined by the council), then from 1925 to 1928, he represented Aithsting solely. He unsuccessfully contested the Aithsting seat in the 1907 County Council election, the 1921 Aithsting County Council by-election, the 1928 County Council election and the 1932 Aithsting by-election. His brother in law James A. Smith was also a Councillor.
Biography
John started a business in Lerwick after WWI, but temporarily closed it in order to travel the world. He visited New Zealand, Australia and America on his trip before returning.
