John Keith Herculson 'Johnnie' Williamson was a shop manager and a County Councillor for Yell South from 1940 until 1949, then again between 1950 and 1952. He unsuccessfully contested the Yell South seat in the 1949 County Council election.
Biography
John was educated at Burravoe School, and as a young lad moved to Lerwick, first taking up employment with D & G Kay's and Hunter & Sinclair. He returned to Yell to work with Manson & Co in Burravoe, leaving to volunteer for service in the Royal Navy Reserve in WWI. He saw active service throughout the war and upon demobbing, joined the merchant navy. In 1923, when Andrew D. Clark acquired George Laurence & Co in Ulsta, hired John as manager, with John later living above the shop. In 1953, after 30 years of service, he took over the business.
