John Percy Henderson was a dentist in Lerwick, a Lerwick Town Councillor between 1916 and 1919, and County Councillor initially for Delting North between 1907 to 1913, then for Whiteness & Weisdale from 1914 to 1919, and finally for Burra between 1922 and 1938. He unsuccessfully contested the Delting North seat at the 1913 County Council election.

John left Shetland as a young age and lived in Gateshead for some years, where there exists a large bakery business that was set up by members of his family. Around 1896, he returned to Shetland and opened a dental practice. He retired from his practice in 1935, which was continued by partner G. M. Scott until at least 1958. In 1937 or 1938 he moved to Tynemouth.
