William 'Floorie' Sinclair was a baker, a Provost of the Lerwick Town Council, and a County Councillor. He unsuccessfully contested the Burra seat at the 1913 Zetland County Council election, the Whiteness and Weisdale seat in the 1925 County Council election and the 1933 Lerwick Town Council election.
Biography
William was educated at St Magnus Walker's School before going on to the Anderson Institute. He apprenticed with Malcolmsons & Co as a baker, and he later joined John Black & Sons and became a foreman there. After leaving that job, he joined Andrew Blance at the Alexandra Bakery. He then left baking and became a School Attendance Officer for a period, before returning to his trade, rejoining Black & Sons, which he continued through to around the start of the 1940s.
He was a lifelong abstainer and a prominent member of the Independent Order Of Rechabites.
He was also Worthy Chief Guizer in 1901, and the Guizer Jarl for the Lerwick Up Helly Aa in 1908.
